ABOUT US: The Wilfrid Laurier University Students’ Union is an independent not-for-profit organization formally affiliated with Wilfrid Laurier University. We are governed by a Board of Directors, 12 elected undergraduate students, and managed by an elected President and CEO who serves a 1-year term. The President’s Executive Leadership Team, both current students and recent graduates, serve in their roles alongside a continuing staff team managed by our Executive Director.
The Students’ Union exists to represent, advocate for, and support all Laurier undergraduate students. We work to ensure the student experience is affordable, accessible, safe, and that a high-quality academic experience is paired with opportunities for diverse and inclusive social interaction. It is our goal to be a student-driven organization that is accountable to our members, community-focused, and adaptable to change.
SUMMARY:
The Marketing Communications Department works with members in all other Students’ Union departments to ensure that the Students’ Union is accessible and provides a voice for all students. They are instrumental in sharing the story of our students and work to mitigate reputational risk to the organization.
Reporting to the Director, Marketing Communications, you will focus on the execution and maintenance of marketing and communications content for the Students’ Union, including social and print media, event coverage, and video editing. To be successful in this role, you must be highly motivated to work in a fast-paced environment, be detail-oriented, have excellent written and verbal communication, time management, and organizational skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills. As the Marketing and Communications Department is a collaborative unit, you must be a team player who is flexible and adaptive to meet the needs of the department and the Students’ Union.

POSITION LEVEL: S2 Full time, 12-month maternity leave contract
LOCATION: Waterloo with some multi-campus travel
SALARY RANGE: Starting at $42,000 per annum commensurate to skills and experience
REPORTS TO: Director, Marketing Communications
EDUCATION: Post-secondary degree/diploma or equivalent
TECHNICAL: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in social media tools and platforms (Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, etc.), copywriting, photography, videography and editing required. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite an asset.
