Winter term start students have now been automatically assessed Health and Dental fees on your LORIS account. If you would like to opt-out of the plan and have alternative equivalent health coverage or wish to opt-in family members* to be covered under your health and dental benefits, the time to do so is now. Your family members will have access to the same high-quality coverage offered to you for an additional fee.

The Undergraduate Health & Dental Plan Opt-Out & Family Opt-In period for winter term start students is December 1st - January 16, 2026. You can not opt out until you see your Health and Dental Plan fees assessed on your LORIS Account. Please wait until you see the fees on your LORIS account before requesting an opt out. Winter term start students choosing to opt out must do so through the Student VIP website between December 1st, 2025 - January 16th, 2026.

The Health and Dental plan fees are billed to your student account one time per year only, depending on whether you begin your studies in Fall or Winter Term. If you were assessed Health and Dental plan fees in the Fall term, you will not be eligible to opt-out or opt family in during the Winter Term period. The Fall change of coverage period was from August 1st, 2025 - September 19th, 2025.

Please visit studentvip.ca to review the benefits prior to opting out. In many situations, it will be financially beneficial for you to remain on the plan and coordinate benefits with another plan you may already have.

Students will be reassessed and charged a fee for the plans on a yearly basis. This means you will need to provide proof of alternative coverage and opt-out each year you are a student (including co-op work terms). Alternatively, if you opt out this year, you are still eligible for the plans in subsequent years.

Once you opt out, you are not eligible under any circumstance to opt back in during the current policy year of September 1 to August 31 (this includes a parent experiencing a loss of employment and benefits).

About the Health & Dental Plan

The plan provides you with coverage for services such as extended health, dental, accident, and travel: important healthcare services that are not covered by provincial (OHIP) or international (UHIP), healthcare. This includes practitioners like Registered Massage Therapists, Chiropractors, Social Workers, and many more. Your Benefits include coverage for prescription drugs - including Oral Contraceptives. To find out if your prescription is covered use the Eligible Drug Search Tool.

These Benefits have been designed specifically for students and could save you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars in medical costs each year.

Your Benefits Card

You will need your personalized Benefits Card to access your benefits. Click here to confirm your account, then click on the Benefits Card button to download your card to Apple Wallet or Google Pay!

Keep your Benefits Card with you when you visit the dentist, the pharmacy, when you travel, or anywhere else you are covered.

Know Your Coverage

Now that you have Your Benefits Card, where can you use it? Use the Provider Search Tool on the top right of the website to find health services nearby. You can sort by the type of care needed, and how close they are to you. The Provider Search Tool will show where providers are, which will provide student discounts and directly bill your plan.

You can read a quick overview of your covered services on the Your Coverage page. Learn about all the extended health services you have access to and take advantage of your benefits whether you're on campus, or at home.

It's Easy to File a Claim

Many providers and clinics have the option to submit your claim on your behalf directly to your plan, meaning you get to keep your money where you like it - in your wallet. If a clinic doesn't have the ability to submit your claim on your behalf, you will pay for the service in full, then submit a claim to receive a reimbursement. For instructions on how to make a claim click HERE.
