Wilfrid Laurier University Senate
Open Seats

There are currently two vacancy opportunities on the Wilfrid Laurier University Senate for Waterloo undergraduate students.

1 vacancy for April 2024 - June 2024

1 vacancy from July 1st, 2024 - June 30th, 2025

The Senate is the highest academic body of WLU and makes decisions on high-level academic issues, such as strategic plans, new program proposals, and curriculum changes. In total, there are seven (7) elected undergraduate positions on Senate with one (1) being dedicated to a student from the Brantford Campus. Senators who are undergraduate students are elected for a two (2) year term, and are expected to serve on at least one of the following committees:

  • Academic Planning

  • Executive and Finance

  • Governance

  • Teaching and Learning

  • Student Appeals

  • Honorary Degree

Eligibility: Any Laurier student registered on the Waterloo campus is eligible to run for Senate; however, they cannot be a member of a student body, faculty, staff, or governing body of an external degree-granting institution throughout the duration of their term. Candidates must be registered students at Laurier at the start of their term (July 1, 2024). Students must attend at least 50% of meetings to maintain their position on the Senate. To preserve the perspective of current students and their needs, candidates are encouraged to consider if they are planning to graduate during their elected term. If so, serving a partial limited-time term is an option.

Nomination packages can be submitted to sucro@wlu.ca and suboardchair@wlu.ca or in person to the SU Desk at the Students' Union office in Brantford or Waterloo by March 27, 2024, at 12:00 NOON
